Obituary

Alice Jean Martin
1928-2024

Alice Jean Martin of Riverside, IL, passed away on Jan. 31, 2024. She was 95. She loved her family, gardening, decorating for Christmas, listening to "her boyfriend" Elvis, watching her boys play high school football (a lifelong passion), finding great deals at resale shops, looking out her kitchen windows to see what the neighbors and birds were up to (cardinals were her favorite), and spending time with the greatest dog ever, Annie-girl.

Jean was born on the cusp of the Great Depression on July 1, 1928. In 1945, she met her beloved husband, William Martin, upon his return from service in World War II. They married and started their life together in Joliet, IL, before settling in New Lenox, IL, on Route 6. She is survived by her five children: Kathy (late James) Carnahan of Riverside, IL; Donna (John) Blum of Phoenix, AZ; Larry (Kristine) Martin of San Diego, CA; Bill (Christine) Martin of Chesapeake, VA; and David (Terri) Martin of Las Vegas, NV.

Jean was a hall-of-fame grandmother to Dan, Mike and Doug Carnahan; Angie, John and Ken Blum; and Patrick, Andy, Ben, Billy, Brett, Nick and Matt Martin; and also to her great-grandchildren: Hannah, Emily, Sophie, Truman and Shelby Carnahan; Joe, Natalie, Will and Jack Blum; and Peter, Molly, Ash and Dev Martin.

Jean will also be greatly missed by her brother Donald (Karen) Parks, and by her many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen Parks; husband William; siblings Charles Parks, Bonnie (late Ronald) Kempke, Joseph "Junior" (late Florence) Parks and Richard (late June) Parks; and by many other beloved family and friends.

Her family deeply appreciates your support during this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ( DONATE )
