Allan Roberts was born on Dec. 12, 1944 in Peoria, Illinois. He passed after a long illness on Nov. 26, 2023. He was 79 years old. He was preceded in death by his dad, Harry Roberts, and his mom, Allene (Ahlquist) Roberts. He was an only child. He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Penwarden) Roberts and his children, Matthew Roberts and Kate Roberts.
Allan grew up in Peoria where he worked at WMBD Radio and Television Station as a script writer. Writing was always something he enjoyed doing, and anyone who ever received an email from him can attest to his amazing talent for it. He also played piano with all of the greats around town. This eventually led him North to Chicago where he played with many bands and backed many famous singers.
He had also managed to fit in some time at Bradley University in Peoria and the University of Illinois. He studied medicine for a bit and managed to gain enough knowledge to basically diagnose himself and anyone around him. Often better than those who do it for a living. Most doctors who talked with him assumed he WAS one. He had great fun with that.
He met his wife Debbie at the Playboy Club in Great Gorge, New Jersey in the 70s. They were together for 46 years. Allan managed to capture her heart by staying up all night relaying stories of pranks that transpired during his younger years. They bonded through humor and music.
Electronics was another passion that Allan had from an early age. When he was young, he built his own pinball machine. He always had some kind of project going. During the disco craze he installed several disco dance floors from the contacts he had in the music business. In the 80s he committed to it fully and opened his first business...Roberts Manufacturing. That business led to Robotics Technologies, where he and his partner designed and built safety products for school buses, locks for medical carts, and safety equipment for power plants. He loved his work and was still active in the business up until the end.
His biggest joys in life were talking music, movies and life with his kids, Matthew and Kate, playing music with his friends, playing video games with his kids, and watching his wife and daughter onstage. Allan loved to laugh and had a very sarcastic sense of humor that definitely is carried on by his family.
In typical Allan fashion, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance. A Celebration of Life will occur with details to be determined.
