Brother Kenneth Gillund, FSC, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois.  A De La Salle Christian Brother for 69 years, he was the son of William and Matilda (nee Imdicke) Gillund.  He entered the Glencoe (MO) Novitiate on August 30, 1953, and professed Perpetual Vows on Beaver Island, MI on June 24, 1959. Br. Kenneth, a graduate of St. Mary's College (Winona, MN) and the University of Missouri (Kansas City), was a teacher of English, Religion, and Theater as well as Principal of Mercy Home for Boys, St. Patrick High School, De La Salle Institute and the University of San Diego High School.  He was an avid fan of the theater and opera.  "I refuse to be unhappy" accurately reflects how he lived his life.  Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his siblings, William, Roger, James, Terrance, Carol and Bonnie Ann, along with many nieces and nephews. Per his wishes cremation rites were respectfully addressed. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Charles Borromeo Convocation Hall 101 Airport Rd. (at Lewis University) Romeoville, IL 60446 on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 1:00 PM with a visitation beginning at 12:00 PM. Private inurnment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. Arrangements under the care and direction of O'Neil Funeral Home, Lockport, IL.
