Dorothy A. Armbruster
(nee Gallagher)

Age 81, late of Lockport passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024. Dorothy was born on May 21, 1943, in Evergreen Park, IL to the late Robert Anthony Gallagher and Dorothy Gertrude (nee Markham) Gallagher.

She resided at 77th and Bennett Ave. in Chicago where she attended Our Lady of Peace grammar school, and Aquinas High School. After graduating from high school, she entered the order of Adrian Michigan Dominican sisters, she earned her BA from Sienna College and taught school in the Detroit schools for many years. Later she returned to Chicago where she graduated from Loyola University with a master's degree in education. Dorothy taught school for many years at St. Jude School in South Holland and St. Joseph School in Homewood, IL. She retired from teaching in 2008. She was an exceptional baker and made many beautiful wedding cakes over the years.

She married James Armbruster in 1975, and they had a daughter, Catherine Sheedy. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband, cherished daughter, son-in-law, Dermot Sheedy, two adored grandchildren, Colin and Nora Sheedy, her dear brothers, Robert (late Shirley) and Michael Gallagher, and her loving sister, Patricia (late Martin) Dwyer, and many nieces and nephews.

Prayers will be held in the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel 1105 E. 9th St. Lockport, IL 60441 on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 9:00am proceeding to St. Joseph Church, Joliet for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Interment following Mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery, Orland Park, IL.
