Obituary

Harriet Ann Hamilton (nee Hemenway)

21 June 1931 – 20 Feb 2021

Harriet A. Hamilton, age 89, late of Lockport, passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Harriet was born and raised in Red Wing, MN. She has been a resident of Lockport since 1960. Harriet was very proud to be a registered nurse, flight nurse and space controller for American Airlines in the early 1950s at Midway Airport in Chicago. It was there that she met the love of her life, LeRoy Hamilton, a mechanic for Capital Airlines.

Harriet loved to travel, it did not matter if the trip was by car, airplane or hot air balloon. No dust was allowed to settle on her suitcase. Her family was very important to her. She went on band trips, attended grade school & high school sporting events, choir & band concerts, Boy Scout & Girl Scout activities and any other special event that involved her children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harriet had been an election judge for over 60 years. She was a proud member of the USS Franklin (CV13) Museum Association and would attend their ship reunions. Harriet was very active with the Great Lakes Supply Corps Association, the Women of the Moose, Lockport VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. While watching the Cubs, Bulls, Bears or Blackhawks's games, she could be found knitting and crocheting lap robes and shawls for veterans in need at the local nursing homes. She was immensely proud of her family's military contribution.

Harriet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LeRoy Hamilton; parents, Irving and Bernice Hemenway; and two brothers, Albert and Eli Hemenway.

She is survived by her loving children, Nancy (Craig) Decker, John II, David (Suzanne) and Scott Hamilton; two brothers, Clair and Herbert (Alice) Hemenway; a sister, Susan (Phillip)Lingle; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hemenway; five adored grandchildren Alex (Sarah) and Jeremy Hamilton, and Christopher (Stacy), Nathan (Yvette) and Sarah Decker; four great grandchildren, Lucy, Michael, John and Kieran. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other cherished family members.
