Obituary

James H. "Jim" Cardin

Born: May 13, 1951

At Rest:  January 1, 2022

James H. Cardin born May 13, 1951 in Maryville, TN., passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet on Saturday, January 1, 2022. Raised in Chicago, IL where he met his lifelong closest friend, Fernando Gonzalez.  A career in law enforcement brought Jim to Will County in 1978 where he remained a resident for over 40 years.  That move to Will County resulted in Jim and Mary meeting in 1983 when Mary also moved to Will County to assume a legal position as a Will County Assistant State's Attorney.  Their love for each other will last forever.

Jim served as a police officer for the Will County Sheriff's Police for 28 years, retiring in 2006, with the rank of Sergeant.  During his tenure, he was assigned to several different divisions/units and mentored many young deputies. Upon retirement Jim served as one of the first Deputy Investigators in the Cold Case Unit with the Will County Coroner's Office.

Jim was very patriotic, loved America and proudly displayed the American Flag.

Jim and Mary had a great love for the Volunteer State of Tennessee and had intended to make Tennessee their permanent home one day.

Jim was an avid Harley motorcycle owner and rider having biked in the Great Smoky Mountains, Cherohala Skyway and completed the Tail of the Dragon with Mary and close friends.

Jim was an old movie buff and had a passion for all things John Wayne.

Jim touched so many people's lives, leaving a lasting impression hard to describe.  Affectionately referred to as "Jimmy C" by many.  Jim will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland Cardin and Effie Cardin; a brother, Jerry Cardin; and his mother-in-law, Lorraine Rosiek.

Jim is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Mary Rosiek-Cardin; his brother, Ted Cardin and wife Cyndi Kowalski; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Chester Jaskiewicz; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Michele and Daniel B. Malone; and brother-in-law, John Rosiek.

Also survived by nieces and nephews, Thad Cardin and Jack Cardin; Jessica and Terry Moran; Daniel W. and Stephanie Malone; Laura Fashoda; Jackie and Michael Giordano; Tony and Kristen Fashoda; Michael and Hayley Fashoda; Kenny Rosiek and Bridget Parks; great nieces and nephews, Anthony Sal Giordano, Gabriella Giordano, Makayla Fashoda, Jenna Fashoda, Mara Moran and Maeve Moran. Jim was the proud and loving Godfather to his special and beloved God-daughter, Maeve Michele, who will forever be in his heart and who he will watch over as she grows up.

A Big Thank You to Nick Ficarello for his close friendship and for coordinating a crew of guys to be with Jim round the clock at Lightways Hospice.  Thanks to Nick and the crew of so many friends who participated and helped. Your love and dedication will never be forgotten.

A Big Thank You to Lightways Hospice in-patient unit for their compassionate and professional care of Jim during his time there.
