Obituary

Joseph E. Zanzola

Age 79, late of Lockport passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Born October 25, 1941 at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet. Graduate of LTHS class of 1959 where he met his sweetheart Sally whom he married on October 27, 1962. Joe attended Lewis University, was a skilled Brick Mason, and served as a Lieutenant with the Lockport Township Fire Protection District as Firefighter/ Paramedic from 1969 until his retirement in 1999 after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a dedicated husband, loving father and was devoted to his twin daughters, his granddaughters, and great grandchildren. Joe bravely tolerated being surrounded by the many women in his family and supported all his daughter's recitals, sporting events and shopping outings. He enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Canada with his Firefighter friends, especially with David his son-in-law. A connoisseur of fine and not so fine food, official promoter of family events and gatherings, and an avid Casino enthusiast both locally and in Las Vegas. Joe was an upfront guy who told you what he thought and always offered sage advice with or without being asked. Proud of his Italian heritage, he traveled to Italy twice and stayed in the house where his father was born in Busto Garolfo Italy. Joe was honored to serve as Godfather to numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The Zanzola family would like to thank the entire staff and all the physicians who took exceptional care of Joe at Silver Cross Hospital, New Lenox.

Preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Melinda Zanzola-Story (2020); parents, Ernest and Angela (Nee Davia) Zanzola.

Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sally Ann (Nee Tynor) Zanzola; a daughter Melissa Zanzola; son-in-law, David Story; two granddaughters, Davia (Rob Woods) DeFries and Genevieve (Andrew) Randall; three adored great grandchildren, Casimir and Tynan Woods and Charlotte Randall; a sister, Rosemarie Devine, one brother, Albert (Donna) Zanzola; and brother-in-law, Daniel (Marilyn) Tynor. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other cherished family members also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Dennis Church, Lockport in Joseph's name would be greatly appreciated.
