Kimberly Ann Bruining (nee Demsko) was born on October 23, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away on September 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Kym was the beloved wife of Robert for 30 years, the adoring mother of Hailey, David, and Jeffrey, the devoted daughter of the late Patricia and Gene Demsko, the dearly loved daughter-in-law of Fred and the late Elsa Bruining, a fun and loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and a dear friend to so many.
Kym was meant to be a mother. Being a mom was the greatest joy of her life, and she gave her children every part of her heart. She never missed a school event, a tennis match, or a baseball game. She was always there—in the stands, cheering them on, celebrating their accomplishments, and reminding them just how proud she was of them. No matter how old her children became, she never stopped being their biggest supporter. Her family was her world, and she found so much happiness in simply being together. She was, and always will be, the best mom.
Kym was a devout Catholic, and her faith was not only something she believed, but something she lived each day. She worked at the Diocese of Joliet for more than 10 years, where her faith and her deep desire to serve others became an important part of her life. She had a natural instinct to take care of people and was always thinking about what someone else might need, often putting others before herself without ever expecting anything in return. She had the brightest, warmest smile, and it was a reflection of the love and kindness she carried with her. She had a way of making everyone around her feel welcome, loved, and cared for.
Kym’s greatest legacy is not something she accomplished or something she left behind. It is the love she gave so freely and the people she made feel loved. It is in the way her children will always know how proud she was of them, in the example she set through her faith, and in the countless people she cared for throughout her life. Her family will carry her love with them forever, along with her beautiful smile, her kindness, her strength, and her unwavering gratitude for life.
Kym was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed every day.
Memorials appreciated to the Diocese of Joliet Seminarian Education Endowment Trust (DONATE)
