Mary L. Lowery
(Nee McCabe)
Age 97, late of Lockport passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on Friday, October 15, 2021. She was a descendant of a respected Lockport pioneer family. Her grandfather, William S. Myers -Attorney at Law , came to Lockport in May of 1841. One of his business ventures was the company that became Cook's Champagne, still in business today. Her father, the late William R. McCabe, served as Mayor of Lockport, State's Attorney for Will County, and Representative in the House of Representative for this area. He was also the Owner and Publisher of the Spectator, a weekly newspaper Located in Joliet. Mary successfully ran the newspaper for many years, following the tradition that her father had established of giving the public the truth and holding politicians to the idea that they are servants of the people when elected to office. She learned early that the greatest wisdom one could know was simple kindness.

McCabe and Ada M. (Myers) McCabe; in-laws, Raymond Fenton and Bernice Fenton; four older sisters, Elizabeth (Art) Atkinson, Marge (John) McGinnis, Jean Oliver Skoff, and Ruth (Richard) Ward.
Survived by her son, James R. Lowery, daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Henry) Meader; grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth (Dennis) Stahl, Paul C. (Andrea) Meader, Lauren N. (Jeffrey) Duncan and Samantha M. (Steven) Reese; she is also survived by great-grandchildren, Lucille, and Benjamin Stahl, Daniel Kuehl, Patton and Savannah Reese, Bryce and Shae Duncan; step grandchildren, Vayla Reese, Samantha and Faustino Munoz and several nieces and nephews.
