Splant Pomper
Nov 9, 1963 — Aug 17, 2026
Chicago
Becky Splant Pomper passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, after a long and vigilant health battle at the age of 62. She was surrounded by family, friends, and caregivers around the clock to ensure her comfort. Becky was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend to many and is now at "Sleepy-Poo". She is smiling down at us with those beautiful Irish blue eyes, knowing she lived a full and happy life with Mitchell, family, and friends.
Becky is survived by her husband, Mitchell Pomper, and her seven siblings: Rick Splant (Carol), Marcia Brazalle, Michael Splant, Julie Wooldridge, Mary Kraus (Jack), Kristie Splant, and Kelly Splant, as well as countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born to Marge and Richard Splant on November 9, 1963, just days before President Kennedy left us, Becky was always the popular girl. Becky was a tremendous athlete growing up in the south suburbs and moved to Chicago in the late 1980s to forge her career in dentistry. She was a highly sought-after surgical assistant and always had several employment suitors trying to poach her (or date her, as the case may be).
She dated many but never found the man she really wanted until 2006, when she met Mitchell Pomper on a fortuitous Saturday afternoon outside Hugo's Frog Bar on Rush Street, the day of the Preakness horse race. After getting married in 2009, Becky worked part-time in the dental industry but was mostly a homemaker with a keen eye on running the household while Mitchell ran his insurance business.
Becky enjoyed many wonderful years with Mitchell, going to Cancun many times a year and staying at the RIU, her favorite resort. Becky was extremely family-oriented and always had to be the first one at a family event and the last to leave. Her typical good-bye at any family event was at least 20 minutes, the "Splant good-bye", always infuriating Mitchell good-naturedly. She was a fierce competitor at the Chili Cook Off, always trying to figure out how to get into the top three for recognition.
Becky absolutely adored dogs ("Doggie-Poos"). She enjoyed living the downtown life in a high-rise and always wanted to show her family and friends the great view from their condo on the 34th floor. She loved going across the street to Gibsons for her crabmeat and avocado appetizer. She loved hosting the Chicago Air and Water Show at their condo and showing off her hosting and culinary skills. But what she really loved was spending time with her family and friends and going to every single Splant and Kraus family event.
Most importantly, she loved Mitchell and was happy she waited so long to get married. She had a beautiful and full life with Mitchell for over 20 years. We say good-bye to Becky and celebrate her wonderful and cherished life. We are grateful she is at peace and will lay next to her parents, Dick and Marge.
Memorial to the ASPCA in Becky's memory appreciated. ( DONATE )
