"Papa"

Age 83, late of Joliet passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Michigan, lived in Lyons for 29 years, and a resident of Joliet for the past 24 years.  Richard was a true working man.  He loved working outdoors, yard work, woodworking, rebuilding tractors and their engines plus numerous other engines.  A man who loved working with his hands and was always willing to help.

Preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon A. Smith; his parents, George H. and Anna C. Smith; siblings, Harry (Sarah Bell) Smith and Ruth (Ronald) Drake; his faithful companion, Yoda.

Survived by his six children, Linda (Joseph) Barnes, Steven Smith, Kevin (Christina) Smith, Susan Kerr – Smith, Sandra (Kenneth Jr.) Norkus, and Keith Smith; eight adored grandchildren, Christopher (Rebecca) Svehla, Ryan Smith, Stephanie Smith, Jaxon Smith, Kyle Smith, Megan Smith, Taylor Norkus, and Tyler Norkus; great-granddaughter, Clara Joy Svehla; faithful companion, Wedge.  Numerous other cherished family members and friends also survive.
