Robert J. Anderson
September 5, 1955 – June 20, 2026
Robert J. Anderson, age 70, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Born on September 5, 1955, Robert spent most of his life in the Midway area of Chicago and later made his home in Channahon, Illinois. He was a proud retired Laborers Local 225 member who spent many years working hard to provide for his family.
Robert enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved being outdoors, relaxing by the pool, soaking up the sun, and spending time with his animals. There was rarely a time in his life when he didn't have a dog by his side. He found joy in feeding and watching the deer, birds, and squirrels that visited his yard and could often be found sitting outside appreciating nature.
In his younger years, he was a natural athlete who loved all sports and games and passed that tradition down to his children with introducing them to father and son bowling. Robert loved playing 16-inch softball and was proud to be part of the team known as Fubar. Throughout his life, he was a devoted Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan and rarely missed an opportunity to watch and cheer on his favorite teams. In his later years, he also enjoyed playing Texas Hold'em poker.
More than anything, Robert loved his family. He shared 48 years of love and partnership with his beloved wife, Catherine, whom he married in June of 1978. She remained faithfully by his side throughout their marriage. Together they built a family that became the center of his life and greatest source of pride.
Robert was a devoted father who never missed a game, practice, or event involving his sons. No matter what was going on, he always made it a priority to be there, cheering from the sidelines and supporting them in everything they did. That dedication continued throughout his life as he took great pride in watching his family grow and celebrating the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
Robert was known for his patience and calm demeanor. When family or friends came to him with a problem or were speaking too quickly, he would often remind them to "slow down." It was simple advice that reflected the way he lived his life with patience, understanding, and a steady presence that those around him came to appreciate and depend on.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Alice M. Anderson and Robert A. Anderson, and his brother, David Anderson.
Survived by his loving wife, Catherine Anderson; his brother, Johnny Anderson; his four sons, Robert Anderson (Kristie), Michael Anderson (Stacey), Eric Anderson (Gina), and Sean Anderson (Cheryl); his eight beloved grandchildren, Kayleigh, Rylee, Gavin, Niko, Grace, Conner, Dylan, and Alice and extended family member, Erin Foley.
Robert will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his patience, his love of animals, and his unwavering devotion to family. Whether he was sitting by the pool, watching a Twins game, cheering on the Vikings, playing a hand of poker, or reminding someone to "slow down," he left lasting memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
In lieu of flowers, donation to the Anderson family would be greatly appreciated.
