Obituary

Ronald M. Jones - Retired US Navy

Ronald M. Jones entered this world on August 5, 1945 in Oak Park, Illinois and truly lived his life to the fullest. He graduated from Morton West High School in 1963 and honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. Ron's military service continued past active duty, re-enlisting in the Naval Reserves and serving for 20 years, eventually retiring in 2000. Ron found work and his professional life's calling as a "telephone man." His career permitted him to see technological advancements that he thoroughly enjoyed learning and deploying in the field. He enthusiastically transitioned to teaching technicians and customers alike around the country for AT&T and Lucent Technology before retiring. His ability to adapt and continue educating himself allowed him to meet countless people and professional contacts who he often considered personal friends. Ron never missed an opportunity to share a story from his Navy or telephone days. He loved meeting new people, learning their life story, and making connections.

Ron met the love of his life, Joan Morowczynski, and they married in 1968. They enjoyed a life in Forest View where they welcomed their son John and daughter Megan. It was serving as a loving husband and father that gave Ron the utmost pride. Their weekend trips to "the camper" were always a highlight for family time and relaxation. Ron selflessly contributed to his community by serving on many boards and functions including Forest View Park District Board of Commissioners, St. Pius X Catholic Church Choir, Dispatch and Auxiliary Police Officer for Village of Forest View, Boy Scout Troop Leader, Morton High School Swim Parent Chair amongst numerous other organizations he supported.

In retirement, Ron and Joan relocated to Romeoville and pursued their shared love of travel with their favorite locations being Hawaii, Alaska, and Florida. Ron loved meeting fellow veterans and organizing day trips and events in his role as the Grand Haven Veteran's Club President. Ron's true passion for singing continued well into retirement. He shared his beautiful tenor voice with the Illinois Bell Choir, two church choirs, and cantering for numerous weddings and funerals. Ron also enjoyed attending many musical productions with Joan, especially during the holiday season.Ronald Jones is survived by his wife Joan, son John, daughter Megan Owens (Chip), granddaughters Emma and Alexandra "Lexi," stepbrother Ken Walper (Sue), sister-in-law Maryann Walper, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by mother Astrid Maria Margareta Hylander, father Alwyn Sharpe, stepfather Bion Jones, stepmother Florence Walper Emminger, and stepbrothers and wives: Lee, Phil (Judy), and Gary (Pat).
