William "Bill" Lauer Sr.

Age 67, of Lockport passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.  Raised in Chicago where he lived most of his life, before moving to Lockport in 2022. Retired from the City of Chicago in 2021 where he was a dedicated City of Chicago plumbing inspector for over 20 years.

An avid golfer, enjoyed swimming, but above all else cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren.  He was always first to lend a helping hand and genuinely loved helping others.  He had a remarkable ability to make everyone he met feel seen, valued, and welcome.  Bill believed in the value of hard work and led by example, instilling the same work ethic in his children and grandchildren.  He was the true definition of a selfless man, giving everything he had to his family and friends.  His greatest joy was providing for those he loved and creating a lifetime of memories with them.

Preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Charlotte (nee Papa) Lauer.

Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Tonette (nee Katello) Lauer; four cherished children, Joseph (Brianne) Lauer, William Jr. (Stacey) Lauer, Amy (Nate) Darling, and Kenneth (Erica) Lauer; eight adored grandchildren, Aubrey, Quinn, Vaughn, and Faye Lauer, Tinsley Lauer, Rosie and Sophia Darling, and Lucas Lauer and two more on the way; and many dear friends whose lives were made better by knowing.

Funeral Service on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel 1105 E. 9th St. Lockport, IL 60441 at 10:30am.  Interment following service at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery, Orland Park.
